ATVs and Mountain Biking:
Peckerwood Knob Cabins affords endless opportunities for ATVs, mountain biking and hiking. AND no need to transport and leave your truck and trailer unprotected while you're
out having fun. You can leave right from the cabins in three directions and explore public lands free for miles and miles . . . and miles. No permits required. No boring flatlands.
You're in the mountains with something new around every bend. Rough terrain, great views. Our guests love it.
Float the Mountain Fork River: It would be a shame to miss the opportunity to experience the Mountain Fork River while you're here. It is a beautiful
river, sure to please. We recommend the 8 mile stretch from Highway 4 to the "narrows" below Smithville. Both
landings have easy access just off pavement, no long drives for miles down dirt roads to get on and off the river. You
get to spend your time on the water. It's a great stretch of water and takes only about 4 hours. A fun, relaxing, back
to nature experience. Canoes and kayaks are available to rent and shuttles available right in Smithville, Oklahoma.
Beaver's Bend and Queen Wilhelmina State Parks: Two state parks are located within an hour's (beautiful) drive of Peckerwood Knob, with various activities available. See their websites for details. Beaver's Bend State Park and Queen Wilhelmina State Park
Scenic Talimena Drive - Hwy.1 This skyline drive runs for 54 beautiful miles of scenic Oklahoma mountains stretching from Talihina, Oklahoma to
Mena, Arkansas. Peckerwood Knob Cabins visitors can enter the drive about 12 miles from the cabins where it crosses Hwy. 259. Queen Wilhelmina State Park is located at the eastern end of the drive, and has a lodge,
restaurant, hiking trails. Talimena Scenic Drive
Fishing The Mountain Fork River flows through Smithville, about 13 miles from the cabins. It provides excellent in-season
fishing for bass, catfish, and walleye. Broken Bow Lake, is 40 miles away and is a favorite for fishing and water sports. Trout fishing is available below the dam.
Hang Gliding Enjoy the various nearby Hang Glider and Paraglider launch sites in the Ouachita Mountains with launches on the Talimena Scenic Drive, in Talihina, Oklahoma and in Heavener Oklahoma.
